Calming Floral Facial Steam
Mm, have you ever done an at home facial steam? It is so dang relaxing—I highly recommend it! Here is a quick little recipe for a calming floral facial steam that is wonderful for dry, mature skin. The herbs in this mix help to soothe, calm, and rejuvenate.
What is a facial steam?
A facial steam is where you pour boiling water over herbs (and sometimes essential oils), cover your head with a towel and allow the steam to open the pores on your face. The steam is full of all the botanical goodness from the herbs which help to purify, cleanse, rejuvenate, and hydrate the skin.
How to Make Calming Floral Facial Steam
This little baby is super easy to whip up—not to mention crazy cheap compared to buying something similar! Many of these ingredients you could even grow in your own garden. This recipe is the perfect amount for 1 facial steam, possibly 2 if you want to share. 😉
Ingredients
1 tablespoon dried rose petals
1 tablespoon dried calendula flowers
1 teaspoon dried lavender flowers
1 teaspoon dried chamomile flowers
1 teaspoon dried orange peel
1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
Directions
Combine all the ingredients in a glass bowl. That’s it. Now you’re ready for the steam!
How to do a facial steam
When you’re ready to roll you will need:
Calming Floral Facial Steam blend
Boiling water
Towel
Freshly washed face
Pour the boiling water over your steam blend. I like to let it steep for just a brief minute before creating a tent with the towel over the bowl and your head. Close your eyes, and hover your face above the steaming bowl. Keep your face about 8-10 inches from the bowl. Do please be careful—obviously the water is hot and you could burn your delicate face skin if you’re not careful.
Stay under the towel for about 10 minutes to really let your pores open up and the steam to do its work. If you get really hot and uncomfortable feel free to pop out for a second and cool off.
Once you’re done with the steam, finish your mini little facial with a toner and moisturizer. Don’t skip this step as it helps lock in the benefits of the steam.
Ahh, now don’t you feel all refreshed? Just typing this up is making my face crave a steam!
Although this steam is specifically for dry, mature skin, it would probably be fine for other types as well.
Steams are great to do about once a month if you have dry skin. Possibly more, but just see how your face feels.
Extra Tidbits
**If you are missing one or two of the flowers or herbs, feel free to simply leave them out. It’s not the end of the world, although each of them do play a part in the steam.
**Once you’re done with the steam, feel free to strain out the herbs and pour the infused flower water into your bath, or pour over your hair for a lovely hair rinse.

If you are unable to grow your own herbs, or find ingredients locally, then here are two of my favorite places to buy bulk ingredients:
This company is where I purchase the majority of my seeds. Great selection of heirloom and/or organic seeds:
These are hands down my favorite seed starting trays and pots. These are heavy duty and don’t crumple when you pop your plants out! Definitely worth the investment in my opinion.
