Lilac Infused Honey

Lilac Infused Honey | Mossy Meadow Farm

Are you a lilac lover? I have met very few people, if any, who aren’t. There’s just something about them! I, for one, can’t resist shoving my nose in the flowers when they start blooming in the spring. As a kid, my first memory of lilacs were at my aunt’s house. She had ROWS of lilacs—huge ones. And you could walk in-between them and feel like you were in lilac heaven. My sisters and cousin and I would pick handfuls of those lilacs and pretend we were brides walking down the lilac aisle.

It was amazing. 😍😂

So yea, lilacs take me back to a very happy place.

The downside of lilacs is that they only bloom for such a short time! Maybe about 2 weeks and the blooms are gone? So sad!

If you are wanting to preserve that lilac-smelling goodness, then here’s a quick and easy little recipe you can enjoy all year until the lilacs bloom again.

Lilac Infused Honey

Ingredients

  • Local honey (or whatever honey you have access to)

  • Fresh picked lilacs with the stems and green parts removed

  • Glass jar with a lid

Directions

Depending on how much honey you have will determine your jar size and how many lilacs you need. There are no specific measurements because all you do is stuff the jar full of your lilacs and pour the honey over them to cover. Then just let it sit for a few days and give ‘er a taste test! Let it infuse as long as you wish.

If you’d prefer, you can strain the honey and discard the flowers, otherwise, they are edible and you can just spread the flowers on your toast right along with the honey.

Also, I’m personally not too picky about removing all the tiny little stems—having too much in there can cause a bitter taste, but some won’t hurt anything.

And that’s it! Super simple and yet quite tasty. The flavor is pretty delicious—flowery without being too crazy overwhelming. I find it ironic to use “wildflower” honey and then add lilacs—because YES you will amp that wildflower taste up quite a bit! It’s awesome.

Enjoy!

Plants by Stark Bro's

I haven’t purchased too much from this company, but they do have some lovely lilacs for sale!

If you are unable to grow your own herbs, or find ingredients locally, then here are two of my favorite places to buy bulk ingredients:

This company is where I purchase the majority of my seeds. Great selection of heirloom and/or organic seeds:

These are hands down my favorite seed starting trays and pots. These are heavy duty and don’t crumple when you pop your plants out! Definitely worth the investment in my opinion.
