Lemon balm lip balm for cold sores. Helps to soothe and prevent cold sores.

If you’ve ever had a cold sore in your life, then you know how absolutely awful they can be. Here’s a lovely lip balm that can not only help and soothe them, but because of the lemon balm can actually help prevent them.

Why Lemon balm?

Lemon balm is the key ingredient in this recipe due to its very powerful anti-viral properties. In fact, it has specifically been shown to help deter the virus that causes cold sores. I have found taking lemon balm internally as well as using this lip balm to be super helpful in reducing my cold sore outbreaks. Check out this post for more on lemon balm.

I would also recommend looking into taking a lysine supplement as well as boosting your immune system with powerful herbs such as elderberry. While the herpes virus never goes away (it lies dormant until it decides to flare up) you can manage them pretty well using natural methods. For me I get them when I’m stressed (which can even be from my period) so managing my stress along with boosting my immune system is extremely important.

These are a couple of the methods I personally make and use to manage mine. I tend to switch it up depending on what mood I’m in. :) But please do your own research and figure out what might be best for your body.

Now let’s get onto making that lip balm!

Lemon Balm Lip Balm for Cold Sores

Lemon balm lip balm for cold sores. Helps to soothe and prevent cold sores.

Ingredients

  • 14 grams infused lemon balm oil

  • 14 grams shea butter

  • 15 grams beeswax

  • 2 grams castor oil

  • 1 gram vitamin e oil

  • 1 gram peppermint essential oil

  • 0.6 grams tea tree essential oil

  • 0.4 grams clove essential oil

Directions

The first thing you will need to do is make a lemon balm infused oil. And I’m not talking any old weak infused oil—we want strong and potent! So check out this post on how to make it. Trust me, it’s worth it. Once you’ve made the infused oil come back here and finish making the lip balm.

  1. Weigh out the infused oil, shea butter, beeswax, and castor oil. Place them in a double boiler or hot water bath.

  2. Melt together over medium-ish heat. Be careful not to overheat so you don’t kill all the goodness in the infused oil—you just want everything to melt together

  3. Once melted remove from the heat. Weight out the remaining ingredients and add them to the melted oils. (Or, just add them directly to the jar your melted oils are in.)

  4. Mix everything really well and then very carefully pour them into the lip balm tubes of your choice.

  5. This does begin to solidify pretty quickly so you might have to place the jar back into the hot water bath and liquefy everything again.

  6. Now you just let the lip balm harden and you’re done!
