No Mess No Fuss Toilet Bomb Powder
I’m just gonna go ahead and say it. Toilet Bomb Fizzies are dumb. Do you know how many batches of them I’ve tried to make and failed? I truly just don’t get how to make them! Every single time I’ve tried to add the liquid portion, they fizz all over the place, don’t hold their shape, and just plain stress me out. For something that’s supposed to make my life easier they sure have a way of making me want to cry.
I finally got smart and thought with my thinking brain. Haha. Why on earth do the ingredients need to be in cute little shapes? That’s certainly not what’s getting the toilet clean! So if you’re ready to pull your hair out trying to make toilet bombs—STOP! Make this instead. It will take you 3 minutes and works just the same. Because I don’t know about you, but I certainly have better things to do with my time than to make pretty shapes to drop into my toilet.
And if you’ve never heard of a toilet bomb—(or toilet fizzy) it’s basically something you drop into the toilet, it fizzes, and while it fizzes it kills bacteria and gives your toilet a little refresh. It doesn’t replace deep cleaning and scrubbing, but it is a great easy way to keep your toilet a little cleaner into between cleanings. (Or…help stretch out the time between cleanings…but you didn’t hear that from me…)

Ingredients
1 part baking soda
1 part citric acid
essential oils (optional)
Glass jar with a non metal lid
Directions
You will use equal parts of both the baking soda and citric acid so you can make as little or big of a batch as you wish. I tend to use my “part” as a 1 cup measuring cup which means I use one cup each of the baking soda and citric acid. However, feel free to go bigger or smaller. Carefully pour the powders into a glass jar (I use a pint sized mason jar with a plastic lid), close your jar tightly and shake the dickens out of it.
Once it’s all shook up, let the dust settle, open the jar, and add your essential oils if you are using them. I personally love the citrus oils. To my 2 cup batch I add about 20 drops of citrus essential oil. (Usually lemon). Close the lid and shake it all up again. That’s it! You’re done.
I keep a jar of this in each of my bathrooms and dump around 1-2 tablespoons in the toilet whenever it needs a little freshening between cleanings. Let it fizz, and flush it down. Or you can let it sit until you use your restroom for an even longer cleaning time.
If you plan on using citric acid in larger quantities I highly recommend purchasing it in bulk and not in the canning section of your grocery store. You will save so much money!

Citric Acid kills mold, mildew, and bacteria as well as fights limescale.
